Aphasia Clinic Intro > Who the Program is For
ADULT APHASIA CLINIC
WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?

This special program is geared toward individuals with aphasia who:

  • Have been living with aphasia for 3 months or more; this will include individuals who have been living with aphasia for many years after their stroke
  • Are currently being seen by a speech and language pathologist in the community, or may no longer be receiving treatment services
  • Are able to attend and participate 2 days per week for up to 7 weeks. This includes:
    • 2, 50 minute individual sessions per week
    • 2, 90 minute group session on the same day as individual
  • Are able to have consistent transportation to and from our clinic for services
  • Have a communication partner (i.e., family members, caregivers or friends):
    • who wants to support the individual with aphasia in participating in social activities
    • who can arrange for consistent transportation for the Summer treatment program:
    • who is willing to work with a supervised U.W. SLP graduate student
    • who is willing and able to accompany the individual with aphasia in attending a pre-treatment assessment during the Spring Quarter. The assessment will consist of 2 sessions, one week apart, of approximately 2 hours each and will assist us in planning for summer treatment. The cost is included as part of the package (cost information outlined below).
    • and, who is willing to accompany the individual with aphasia for a minimum of 1 session during the Summer program

 BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION

  • Identify yourself as someone who is interested in this program or be referred by an SLP in the community; then request an application from our clinic
  • Complete the application package and return it to the UW Speech & Hearing Clinic postmarked by Friday, February 27, 2009.

WHO WILL PROVIDE THE TREATMENT PROGRAM?

Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Students at the University of Washington under the close supervision of ASHA certified and Washington State licensed Speech-Language Pathologists.
