COMMUNICATION CAMPS 101

WHAT ARE COMMUNICATION CAMPS?

Treatment for school-age children will be offered in the summer only and will include a mix of one-to-one individual and small group treatment sessions with similar-aged peers 2 days a week, 3 hours each day, for 7 weeks. An individualized program will be provided for each child by closely supervised graduate student clinicians in speech language pathology.

IS MY CHILD A GOOD CANDIDATE?

  • Children who have difficulty organizing language/ learning to read and who are at the end of 2nd or 3rd grade may participate in a Language & Literacy Group.
  • Children who are 5 – 8 years old on the Autism Spectrum and can communicate verbally but have difficulty interacting appropriately with peers may participate in the Social Skills Group.
  • Children who are 5-8 years old and are deaf or hard of hearing may participate in the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Group. Children utilizing sign language and auditory-oral methods would be appropriate to participate.
  • Review the types of speech, language, literacy, and social interaction skills that will be the focus of each respective group on the reverse OR talk with a speech language, reading, or special education professional who works with your child to help determine if the Communication Camps program is a good fit.
