Overview

The Core SLP Master's program is a two-year program which provides students with the depth and breadth of foundational knowledge and skills pertinent to speech-language pathology. The Core SLP program also provides opportunities for students to individualize their program of study through elective coursework reflecting their career and/or research interests. Clinical practica are primarily obtained on the University of Washington campus with the exception of an internship experience in a community-based facility. The Core SLP program enables students to enter a variety of areas of clinical practice including early childhood programs, schools, outpatient clinics, private practices and hospitals.

The first year of the program is focused on providing students with foundational knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, cognitive-communication disorders, swallowing and hearing disorders across the lifespan. Students also participate in multiple practicum experiences within the UW Speech and Hearing Outpatient Clinic focused on establishing and developing clinical skills through evaluation and treatment of both adult and pediatric patients.

The second year includes elective coursework selected by the students in alignment with their clinical interests, as well as ongoing clinical practicum experiences in the UW Speech and Hearing Outpatient Clinic. Towards the end of the second year, students complete a culminating, clinical internship experience in the community that aligns with their designated interest area.
