Richard
Folsom, Ph.D., is Professor and Head of Audiology in the
Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University
of Washington, Seattle. He is also Head of Audiology
at the Child Development and Mental Retardation
Center and a Research Affiliate at the Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing
Research Center, University of Washington. His
responsibilities center on academic and clinical teaching
in the areas of auditory development, physiologic assessment
of hearing, and pediatric audiology.
Dr.
Folsom has published in the areas of early identification
of hearing loss, hearing development, and pediatric assessment. He
is currently a principal investigator (UW site) on a large,
multi-center research project entitled "Identification
of Neonatal Hearing Impairment". The goal of this project
is to evaluate the efficacy of both the auditory brainstem
response and otoacoustic emissions as tools for identifying
hearing loss in the neonatal period. He is also a principal
investigator on a grant entitled "Auditory Sensitivity
and Frequency Resolution" from the National Institute of
Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIH-NIDCD).
