MedSLP Program Fees
The Master’s of Science in Medical Speech-Language Pathology is a fee-based or self-sustaining graduate program administered through University of Washington Educational Outreach (UWEO). UWEO is the administrator for over 30 fee-based graduate degree programs at the University of Washington.
MedSLP Program students register for all coursework and pay the established program fees through UWEO on a quarterly basis. Graduate students in the MedSLP program (and any fee-based program) are eligible for the same graduate student services as individuals in WA state-funded programs, including financial aid, campus healthcare, housing, insurance, etc.
1) Instructional Fees
Unlike graduate programs at the University that are funded by the state of WA, different “in-state” and “out-of-state” tuition rates are not assessed for fee-based programs. Rather, there is an established instructional fee that graduate students pay for the degree program no matter the individual’s residency status. Please note that this instructional fee does not include the cost of textbooks or materials and is subject to change.
2) University Fees
UW graduate students are responsible for the following University fees:
- Registration fee - A non refundable fee paid each quarter at time of registration.
- Technology fee - This fee supports the improvement of technology used by students at the University of Washington campuses. The Student Technology Fee Committee determines the expenditure of this fee. Students at the UW lead the committee which allocates money for technology resources for general student use. The fee is paid quarterly.
- Services & Activities (S&A) fee - This fee supports student activities and programs such as ASUW & GPSS Activities, Student Publications, Student Loan Fund, Hall Health Primary Care Center, recreational sports programs, childcare, student legal services, Ethnic Cultural Center and Student Union facilities. The fee is paid quarterly.
3) Departmental Fees
Speech & Hearing Sciences graduate students are responsible for the following mandatory fees:
- Immunization fee – All graduate students are required to participate in the Health Sciences Immunization Program provided through the UW Medicine Hall Health Primary Care Center. This program requires students to complete a review of their immunization history at the University Immunization Clinic and obtain all required immunizations there, in order to ensure students and their clients are adequately protected. The one-time fee is paid at the start of the program.
- Background check fee – Graduate students are required to complete and successfully pass a national background check as a condition of admission. The fee is paid prior to starting the program and the background check is valid for 2 years.

- Tuition Exemption Program for WA-state employees
- University of Washington Grant & Scholarship Programs, including:
• University tuition waivers
• Husky Promise program
• Graduate Opportunities & Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP)

- WA state-based financial aid or grants
How to apply for Federal Loans & Work Study
To apply for a Federal Stafford Direct Loan, fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on line at www.fafsa.ed.gov or on paper and submit it to the address included on the application. If you are offered admission to the MedSLP Program and your FAFSA is approved, the University of Washington will send you a financial aid eligibility letter and a promissory note asking how much you wish to borrow. You will need the University of Washington’s federal financial aid code for the FAFSA: 003798.
