Bob
Miller joined the faculty in the Department of Speech and
Hearing Sciences at the University of Washington as a senior
lecturer in 2001. He spent the first thirty years of his
career working in the Department of Veterans Affairs as
a speech-language pathologist and Chief of Audiology and
Speech Pathology at VA Puget Sound Health Care System.
Dr. Miller also has an appointment as Clinical Associate
Professor in the Departments of Rehabilitation Medicine
and in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the University
of Washington. He is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association and holds board certification from the Academy
of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences. He
received the 1997 Outstanding Clinical Achievement Award
from the Washington Speech and Hearing Association. He
received the Distinguished Career Award from the Department
of Veterans Affairs.
Dr. Miller's clinical focus is in the area of adult neurogenic communication
disorders and most of his publications focus on dysphagia in adults. He has co-authored
two books, Medical Speech Pathology with Michael Groher, and Management of Speech
and Swallowing in Degenerative Diseases with Kathryn Yorkston and Edythe Strand.
He consults in the Neuromuscular Clinic for Swallowing and Speech Disorders at
the University of Washington Medical Center.
Bob teaches graduate courses in Neural Bases of Speech, Language and Hearing
(SPHSC 501), Medical Speech Pathology (SPHSC 533), Dysphagia and Associated Disorders
(SPHSC 534), and Professional Seminar in Speech-Language Pathology. He provides
supervision for students participating in adult neuro practica.
