On April 30th, 2011, the department and our Neurologic Communication Disorders Fund hosted the 2nd Annual Aphasia Day retreat for individuals with aphasia and their families and caregivers. Approximately 80 caregivers and stroke survivors attended from Seattle and the surrounding communities, with nearly 60 other individuals supporting the event. This included Speech & Hearing Sciences faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and colleagues in the community. It was a terrific day! There were testimonials from survivors and family, presentations by invited speakers, and an engaging exhibitor’s area. The event was hosted at the Lake City Community Center with space generously donated by the Lake City Lions Club. We are already planning for our 2012 retreat!
