  Department Overview

The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences (SPHSC) is a unit of the College of Arts and Sciences, and offers the Bachelor of Science, Master's of Science in Speech- Language Pathology, Doctorate of Audiology and Doctorate of Philosophy. There are approximately 30 faculty members including clinical supervisory staff, and 240 students at all levels in the Department. The program consists of a wide range of courses providing a rich undergraduate education that prepares students for graduate study. The program also provides graduate students with an opportunity to develop scholarly and professional competence in various areas of specialization including: speech and language acquisition; speech production and transmission; hearing science; psychoacoustics; speech perception; computer recognition and generation of meaningful speech; human communication disorders related to speech, language, and hearing; and the clinical procedures involved in the identification, prevention, and remediation of communication disorders.
  

Accreditation: The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences at the University of Washington and its graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
