The auditory system does not just receive inputs from the ear, but from other sensory systems as well. And it sensd information to the other sensory parts of the brain. For example, the superior colliculus is part of the visual system. There are extensive connections between the auditory pathway and the superior colliculus. The superior colliculus contains a map of space. Neurons respond when something happens in a particular place in space, whehter the event is auditory, visual or both.
