Temporal theories point out
that when you combine the harmonics of a given fundamental, even when the
fundamental isnŐt there, the combined time waveform repeats at the rate of
the fundamental frequency. As we know, auditory nerve fibers will be phase=locked
to the high positive peaks in the time waveform-- which are at the period of
the fundamental. These theories say that that is the information you use to
assign a pitch to the complex. |
