This course is a survey of basic concepts related to hearing. The topics covered will include the anatomy and response properties of the ear and auditory nervous system, and fundamental aspects of auditory sensation and perception. The format is lecture with weekly lab. We will be using TurningPoint during lectures to deliver questions on the lecture topic and for pop quizzes. There will be 6 lab sessions. Each student must have a TurningPoint response unit. They are available at the University Book Store. Students may also use their web-enabled smartphones or laptops to respond to questions. Students need to go to the TurningTechnologies.com student store and purchase a licence for their device. Cost is $16 for one year, $32 for four years. To get that price, they will need to enter the code 9mF5 when prompted to identify them as UW students. Once the license is purchased, they can download the free app. Participation is a requirement of the course; students who regularly answer the TurningPoint questions will receive extra credit on their final grade. TurningPoint will also be used for quizzes. Grading Policy
