Dr. Josefa Báez-Ramos
Dr. Josefa Báez-Ramos was appointed Education Advisor by the Spanish Ministry of Education for the states of Washington and Oregon on September 1, 2004.
She brings to this position 24 years of experience as a Master Teacher, Administrator and University Professor, working in the Doctoral Program and the Faculty of Education at the University of Salamanca, Spain. In addition to her work in Spain, she spent a year teaching at the United Nations International School in New York City and many years as an associated professor with the International Masters Summer Program at the University of Salamanca. When not occupied in the classroom, she has spent time doing research on the post Spanish Civil War exile (1936-1939), more precisely on women’s issues in Spanish Society and traveling throughout Europe and the Americas.
She has authored several books concerning the Spanish exile, as well as many articles for academic journals and other materials related to teaching Spanish for native speakers and Spanish as a Second Language. She has and continues to be a contributing member of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese magazine, Hispania, the magazine Clamor of the AATSP Washington Chapter, “Juan de Fuca”, and WAFLT. As a member of the aforementioned associations and the Center for Spanish Studies she has conducted Spanish Language and cultural workshops and teaching techniques and sessions about pedagogical issues. She participated in the creation of the manual for teachers in the European Union and was honored by the EU for this contribution.
She has done translations for the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapist, government officials in the state of Washington and for the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Washington state and Oregon state school officials, teachers and students
have also utilize her expertise regarding the Spanish Language and Culture.
