BELLEVUE STREAM TEAM

Your role: You will visit the property with the homeowner/Park Supervisor and Stream Team coordinator to identify site conditions. Follow-up visits may be necessary to review microclimate conditions or obtain additional information. You will interview the homeowner/park supervisor for desired outcomes of the planting. Then, after identifying native plants which will match the site conditions, you will determine a planting scheme which will meet the objectives identified by the site manager. You will draw the area to scale, showing all buildings, easements, and the planting area. The planting area should graphically represent each type of native plant to be placed on the site. The Stream Team Coordinator will provide assistance and materials, then review the final plan.

Type of class activity:

SSL students will accompany Kit on site visits to landowners who have property adjacent to streams in the city of Bellevue. These landowners either voluntarily contact the Stream Team for riparian restoration assistance, or are required to repair a damaged stream bank in order to comply with city code. The SSL student will assist in the site assessment, including determining soil type, slope, and degree of saturation. The student will then help develop a planting plan for the landowner, based on desire to provide erosion control, habitat for birds and small mammals, or pleasing aesthetics.
