ANTH 458: Ethnobiology
Taught by Denise Glover (Anthropology), this course is an introduction to the inter-disciplinary field of ethnobiology—the study of knowledge of and beliefs about the natural world among human groups (ethnos). Formed out of the studies of ethnoscience in the discipline of anthropology, ethnobiology includes a variety of subject matters and theoretical approaches.
ANTH 574/PHG 521/ NURS 582: Culture, Society, and Genomics
Taught by Barbara McGrath (Anthropology), this course examines social and cultural issues of human genome sequencing and control of genetic expression. Attitudes and behaviors toward health, illness, and disability are studied using historical, contemporary, and cross-cultural case study material.
HIST 390: Colloquium in History and Science - Newton & Newtonianism.
Taught by Simon Werrett (History), this course introduces salient themes in the history of science through the life and work of Sir Isaac Newton, and the efforts of Newton’s followers to spread his philosophy in the eighteenth century.
