Social Work Continuing Education (SWCE) supports the educational outreach mission
of both the University of Washington and the School of Social Work. It provides
an extensive curriculum of year-round, life-long learning opportunities to human
service professionals to help them stay current with new developments in the
field, upgrade their skills, exchange ideas with colleagues, and revitalize
their commitment to their profession.
Current Continuing Education Certificate Program Offerings
SWCE offers both individual courses as well as certificates. Currently we
are offering three certificate programs. The links listed below offer
comprehensive information for each certificate program including program
overview, courses, instructors, advisory boards and information on how to
register.
Psychological Trauma: Effective Treatment and Practice. post-master's,
multidisciplinary training preparing professionals to deliver current,
evidence-based, multi-theoretical skilled assessments and interventions to
traumatized youth and adults.
Child and Adolescent Mental Health - Students gain new knowledge and skills
to provide more effective mental health services to children, adolescents
and their families.
Geriatric Mental Health - Students increase their understanding of the acute
and chronic mental health needs of older adults and gain important practical
skills in diagnosing and treating these needs.

In addition to certificate courses we offer a range of one and two day courses
for social work and human service professionals. We also offer several kinds

Social Work Continuing Education Courses
Continuing Education Hours
Professionals in a wide variety of fields complete contact hours needed for
credentialing. See notations after each program for the number of contact hours
provided.
Social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists
The UW is a qualified provider for continuing education requirements administered
by the Washington State Department of Health. All workshops described in this
Social Work Continuing Education section are appropriate (see the Courses page
for course descriptions).
Licensed Psychologists
The UW is a qualified continuing education provider for licensed psychologists,
per WAC 246-924-240.
School Counselors and School Social Workers
The UW is approved by the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public
Instruction to provide clock hours for all those with continuing level certificates.
Washington State Mental Health Specialists
The workshops listed within the Certificate Programs in Child and Adolescent
Mental Heath and Geriatric Mental Health count toward the 100
hours of classroom training required for those working in the public mental
health system who are seeking designation as mental health specialists in these
fields.
Partnerships with Social Work Continuing Education
SWCE welcomes the opportunity to partner with both public and private human
service providers to develop custom training programs and support training needs.
