Human Biology: Genetics and Your Practice


Objectives: The participants will:

  • Be able to recognize different patterns of inheritance
  • Have an understanding of the symbols used in a pedigree, and have elementary skills in obtaining a genetic family history
  • Recognize resources for genetic services in Washington state, including the members of a genetics team
  • Understand some of the psychological and ethical issues that face families with genetic disorders at different times in the life-cycle (prenatal, newborn, pediatric, adult)
  • Have a basic understanding of some of the different types of genetic tests
