SocW 514 Multicultural Chemical Dependency Practice with Diverse Populations: Where to Turn


Course Objectives

Upon completion of this sequence, students will be able to:

  1. Identify key consequences associated with the abuse and misuse of alcohol and other drugs, and know where to turn for additional and updated information
  2. Identify trends in the epidemiology of substance use across the lifespan and among population subgroups in the United States, and know where to turn for additional and updated information
  3. Identify pertinent factors that influence the etiology of substance abuse, and know where to turn for additional and updated information
  4. Identify multiple approaches to assessment and diagnosis of substance abuse, and know where to turn for additional and updated information,
  5. Skillfully conduct an initial assessment interview
  6. Identify key approaches and strategies in substance abuse interventions with individuals, groups, and families, and know where to turn for additional and updated information
  7. Understand the fundamental principles and frameworks associated with self-help fellowships for substance abusers, and know where to turn for additional and updated information
  8. Identify pertinent factors related to substance abuse and its prevention and treatment vis-à-vis diverse population subgroups, and know where to turn for additional and updated information
