The International Social Work Committee Mission

As modern life becomes more international in scope, social issues increasingly must be viewed in a global context. The University of Washington School of Social Work is in a unique geographical location to play a positive role in shaping the social work profession's response to this increasing global interconnectedness. The International Social Work Committee assumes a leadership role within the School of Social Work with regard to promoting a critical global consciousness of international social work issues. Accordingly, the International Committee seeks to:

  • Encourage and facilitate faculty and student opportunities for educational, research, and community service activities related to international social work and social welfare;
  • Promote awareness of international social work and social welfare issues through workshops, presentations, discussion meetings, distance learning activities, films, and other media;
  • Develop a resource base on international social work and social welfare for the school, including books, journals, video, and other library resources.
  • When appropriate, develop links with international programs that already exist at the University of Washington and other institutions.

We have a history spanning at least a decade. The committee has been characterized by strong student involvement in shaping the agenda and activities.
