A. You will need an MSW degree before being certified but may start the certification process during your MSW program. More information will be available at the concentration orientation meeting for SSW MSW students on January 25, 2006. You will need to make sure that you plan for an appropriate practicum and to take the school social work course.
Q. Do I need school social work certification for any social work type job in a school?

A. No, but your chances for employment are greatly increased.
Q. I have done work in schools for years as a family support worker. Do I still need to have a school-based practicum?
A. We will be happy to review your resume and determine whether the practicum component of the certification requirements might be waived due to your experience.
Q. What kind of sites are approved practicum sites for school social work certification?
A. Please see your assigned Practicum Coordinator for detailed information on approved practicum sites.
Q. If I get certified in Washington State and then later move to another state will my Washington State certification count in other states?
