Dean Edwina Uehara Honored by the University of Chicago
Edwina Uehara, Dean of the School of Social Work, was honored in June with the Edith Abbot Award from the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration, where she received her doctorate. The award recognizes an alumnus or alumna for distinguished service to society and outstanding professional contributions at the local, national, or international levels. Additionally, the recipient demonstrates exceptional leadership, creativity in nontraditional or innovative approaches to practice, contributions to the field in research and publications, and demonstrated professional skills throughout an extensive career. Uehara’s colleagues cited her numerous accomplishments in social work, at the UW, and in her community. “Your entire career illustrates Abbott’s passion for education, service, and advocacy in serving poor and diverse communities,” one colleague wrote.
