Study by Three Social Work Faculty Shows Lack of Screening for Domestic Violence
Although federal welfare-reform legislation calls for case workers to screen for domestic violence and most states have agreed to implement this requirement, just nine percent of women applying for Temporary Assistance to Needy Families were screened accordingly. This is just one finding in a study conducted by Taryn Lindhorst, Associate Professor; Marcia Meyers, Professor and Director of the West Coast Poverty Center; and Erin Casey, Assistant Professor of Social Work at UW Tacoma.
You can read the findings of the study published in the January issue of the journal Violence Against Women at http://vaw.sagepub.com/cgi/reprint/14/1/5. The title is “Screening for Domestic Violence in Public Welfare Offices: An Analysis of Case Manager and Client Interactions.” If you cannot download the PDF from the above link, please try this UW library off-campus link (accessible only to UW community) http://vaw.sagepub.com.offcampus.lib.washington.edu/cgi/reprint/14/1/5.
