Karen Fieland Receives J. Scott Briar Doctoral Award
Doctoral candidate Karen Fieland has been awarded the second annual J. Scott Briar Doctoral Award. This award, established by Keith Briar in honor of his father J. Scott Briar, former dean of the University of Washington School of Social Work, provides support for doctoral students who are working on their dissertations. In keeping with Scott Briar’s long commitment to strengthening the empirical knowledge base of the social work profession, doctoral students whose dissertation research contributes to more effective social work practice are given priority for this $1,000 award.
Karen's dissertation, whose title is “Spirituality and Health among HIV+ Native Americans,” examines the mental health needs of HIV-positive Native Americans.
