Nancy Hooyman Awarded the Council on Social Work Education's (CSWE) Significant Lifetime Achievement Award for 2009
Dearest Friends and Colleagues:
I write with the very best and most exciting news: our highly accomplished, nationally renowned, and deeply beloved colleague, Professor Nancy Hooyman, has just been awarded the Council on Social Work Education's (CSWE) Significant Lifetime Achievement Award for 2009!
As many of you know, this award is among the most prestigious and competitive our profession bestows. It is reserved for those rare individuals whose work has transformed the course of social work education, inspired generations of social work students and faculty, and significantly shaped the quality and direction of social work practice. Nancy's selection for this award is a testament to her accomplishments in many areas--from her national leadership in gerontological social work and her mentoring of social work educators and students, to her contributions to the scholarship on feminist social work administration and her leadership of the University of Washington School of Social Work from 1987 - 2001.
Nancy's nomination for the Significant Lifetime Achievement Award was very enthusiastically supported by dozens of colleagues from UW and across the country. She will formally receive the award in fall, 2009, at CSWE's annual program meeting in San Antonio, Texas. But stay tuned for news of how we intend to celebrate Nancy right here at the School of Social Work!
In the meantime, please join me in expressing great JOY and deepest congratulations to Nancy for this singular accomplishment! Nancy: none in our profession is more deserving of this honor--and the UW School of Social Work community could not be more proud and pleased!
Very warmest regards,
Eddie Uehara,
Dean
