Valerie Shapiro Has Published Strengths-Assessment Resource for Practitioners

Doctoral student Valerie Shapiro is co-author of a recently published assessment tool called the Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (Kaplan Early Learning Company, 2009). This assessment tool, which has had a waiting list of agency directors and practitioners eagerly awaiting its publication, presents a standardized psychological assessment of social-emotional competence. The Devereux Student Strengths Assessment (DESSA) is part of a comprehensive school-based prevention program that supports social-emotional learning in kindergarten through eighth grade children--particularly important for vulnerable children, who are a major focus of social work.
