The departments of Statistics and Biostatistics at the University of Washington, together with colleagues in Genome Sciences, Biology, and Medicine, offer exciting opportunities for graduate study in Statistical Genetics.
We also work in close partnership with the interdepartmental Program in Computational Molecular Biology.

Celebration of StatGen Alumni, 2000-2007

NEW AS OF JUNE 2007:

THIS WEB SITE IS (OR WILL BE) UNDERGOING REORGANIZATION FOR SEVERAL GOOD-NEWS REASONS:

  • Following the Graduate School Review of the Statgen Certificate program, and the award of the new NIH-funded Statistical Genetics Training Grant (web link soon) we:
  • Have formed a new Steering Committee (which has met, May 2007), replacing our former Certificate Advisory Committee.
  • Will be expanding our faculty roster from the current list
  • Will be reviewing the Certificate Curriculum
  • Will be having a retreat in late-Nov/early-Dec 2007 to discuss many issues, but also have some great invited outside speakers
  • Hope to receive administrative funding that will enable us to reorganize and grow the program,
  • And much more!
If any faculty or students have any questions in the interim, please contact Elizabeth Thompson (Statistics), Bruce Weir or Ellen Wijsman (Biostatistics), or Joe Felsenstein or Phil Green (Genome Sciences). These are the current members of the new Steering Committee.
Current Announcements:
  • Fall 2005: SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
    The Statistical Genetics faculty of the University of Washington welcome the arrival of new statistical genetics faculty. Especially, we welcome Dr. Bruce Weir, incoming chair of the department of Biostatistics, ex-officio member of the Advisory Board of the Statistical Genetics Interdisciplinary Certificate, and a well-known leader of the Statistical Genetics academic community.
  • A competition with a small monetary prize, to come up with a Certificate for our Certificate alumni: still open Fall 2005!!.
  • And we have fun! Photo of the "MathGen group", the Statistical Genetics Research Discussion Group in the Statistics Department in Spring 2003, and again in Fall 2005, and more in 2006 (from Bertrand Servin).
  • First official graduates of the Statistical PhD pathways in Statistics and Biostatistics, and of the Interdisciplinary Certificate Program, occurred in Summer, 2003.
