:: Microfabrication and Nanoengineered Materials - Description

This thrust will focus on the themes of assembling materials on multiple length scales, integrating EO polymers, all-optical polymers, and organic materials with optical gain into photonic and electronic devices, and free-form 3D mesoscale patterning. The mission is to further advance the performance and functionality of photonic materials and devices through nanoengineering of structures for information technologies and telecommunications. This thrust will lead to materials and microfabrication processes for the creation of new types of active photonic devices, 2-D and 3-D photonic crystals with tunable characteristics, and 3-D photonic circuits.
