An anonymous donor has established two funds to benefit teaching and research at the UW Regional Burn Center at Harborview. The endowments honor Dr. Loren Engrav and Dr. David Heimbach.

Both faculty members are pioneers in burn and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Engrav was the first chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Harborview Medical Center from 1977 to 2001, and Dr. David Heimbach was director of the Burn Center from 1976–2002.

Dr. Heimbach’s promotion of a new technique in the late 1970s — removing burns surgically to prevent infection and hasten the process of skin grafting — helped establish Harborview Medical Center’s pre-eminence in burn and wound care.
