Every year, Harborview Medical Center sponsors a multidisciplinary conference highlighting issues in trauma care from pre-hospital through rehabilitation. Presenters this year include Drs. Saman Arbabi, Nicole Gibran, Jerry Jurkovich, and Benjamin Starnes from UW Surgery. The conference is in downtown Seattle, June 2nd-3rd.

Dr. Eileen Bulger is co-PI on a nation-wide study of hypertonic resuscitation for blunt trauma. Hypertonic saline has been tested in smaller studies in the U.S. and has improved survival, but prior numbers were too small to make it a standard of care in the trauma population.

Dr. Jerry Jurkovich, UW Professor of Surgery and Chief of Trauma at Harborview Medical Center, has been elected to serve as president of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) in 2008-09.
