January 1990 Region's first liver transplant performed at UWMC
May 1990 UW surgeons perform region's first pediatric liver transplant at Children's Hospital and Medical Center (CHMC)
June 1990 UWMC's first pancreas transplant (with kidney)
January 1991 UW surgeons perform nation's first combined living-related donor kidney and cadaveric pancreas transplant
October 1991 UWMC's first pancreas-only transplant
April 1992 Drs. Tom Marchioro and Doug Wood perform region's first lung transplant
July 1993 UWMC's first "split liver" transplant

Dr. Mark Lupinetti performs region's first pediatric heart transplant at CHMC

UWMC's first kidney transplant with living donor unrelated to recipient
October 1996 UWMC's first double kidney transplant
October 1997 The UW hosts the International Liver Transplantation Society meeting that attracts over 500 participants from 26 countries. Speakers include Sir Roy Calne and Dr. Tom Starzl, pioneers in liver transplantation.
April 1998 Dr. Lucile Wrenshall performs region's first laparoscopic nephrectomy on a living kidney donor
May 1998 Dr. James Perkins performs the region's first in-situ split liver in a cadaveric donor, yielding two successful liver transplant (one adult and one pediatric)
July 1999 A two-and-a-half year-old boy from Kingston, WA becomes the region's first recipient of a living-related liver transplant in a coordinated surgery performed by transplant teams from UWMC (led by Dr. James Perkins) and Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center (led by Dr. Patrick Healey). The boy's mother was the donor.
August 1999 UWMC performs the 500th liver transplant in program's history.
October 2001 UWMC's first undirected / altruistic living kidney transplant
March 2002 UWMC performs the 700th liver transplant in program's history
