<< What can I expect after weight loss surgery?
Choosing your Weight Loss Surgeon
There are many surgeons and clinics offering weight loss surgery. It is important to know the qualifications of your doctor and to evaluate the medical center where you will receive care.
In general:
- Your surgeon should be fellowship trained or have extensive surgical experience in bariatric and minimally-invasive surgery.
- He or she should be a member of key surgical specialty organizations such as the American Society for Bariatric Surgery or the Society for Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
- You should be comfortable with your surgeon and secure that you will have adequate care before, during, and after your operation.
- You will want to look for a program that offers multiple options for surgical weight loss, as not all operations are right for all patients.
- You should look for centers with a multidisciplinary team that includes nutritionists, physical therapists, nurses, and psychologists who can help you achieve your goals.
