Visiting Medical Students

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Surgery at the University of Washington!

The UW School of Medicine (UWSOM) and the Department of Surgery (DoS) uses the Visiting Student Application System (VSAS) for United States medical students to apply to rotate at the University of Washington.

The Department of Surgery has 5 Residency Programs:

Cardiothoracic Surgery (Integrated)
General Surgery
Plastic Surgery (Integrated)
Vascular Surgery (Integrated)
Preliminary Surgery

Application Timeline:

  • February 1: DoS course descriptions and the UWSOM academic rotation block calendar will be available in VSAS.
  • March 1: VSAS opens for students to submit an application.
    These applications are reviewed by the UWSOM Dean’s Office, not by the Departments. Please contact the UWSOM (contact information below) with any questions regarding application materials.
