A CT scan of the chest should be ordered. Findings to be noted are as follows:
- Presence of multiple nodules - suggests metastases or granulomatous disease
- Irregular, lobulated or speculated borders - suggests malignancy
- Calcification in the nodule that is diffuse, solid, central, and laminated suggests benign disease; stippled, amorphous, or eccentric calcification suggests malignancy
