COLORECTAL DISEASE
Case #4 -
A 62 year old with LLQ pain

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
14.) What are the indications for elective surgery? What procedure is usually done?

Elective surgery is recommended after the second episode of diverticulitis (the first episode possibly in a patient younger than age 40). The procedure done is sigmoid resection with primary anastosis. Elective surgery after preparation is also indicated for fistula and includes resection of the sigmoid and the fistula.
