A 52 year old man presents with a history of mild trauma

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
4.) What laboratory tests should be obtained? What results suggest necrotizing infection?

Laboratory tests to be obtained include complete blood count, electrolytes, BUN, lactate, blood gases. A white blood count greater than 15,400, a sodium less than 135 and a BUN greater than 15 mg% are suggestive of necrotizing soft tissue infection.
