Previous to UW TechTransfer, Steve was a Senior Licensing Executive at Oregon Health & Science University, where he helped manage OHSU's intellectual property and helped form start-up companies, but has held various other types of positions during his career, which includes over 25 years of experience in the biomedical industry. During his tenure as Senior Director of Diagnostics at Cetus Corporation, his group developed PCR technology; as Director of R&D at Microbiological Associates, he helped establish the country’s first biotech product safety testing and process validation programs; and as Manager of R&D at the Rohm & Haas subsidiary Micromedic Systems, he helped develop the first automated RIA instruments and diagnostic assays for the clinical laboratory. He has also consulted with pharmaceutical, biotech, and chemical companies and venture capital investment groups, as well as with economic development entities and university technology transfer departments. Earlier in his career he held academic appointments in chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis and at UCLA, and was also a research scientist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.
