Procedure for Incoming MTAs

Steps for University Researchers

  1. Before signing an MTA, review the agreement to ensure the terms are satisfactory.

  2. Provide information about the material requested, the research being conducted, shipping and billing address, etc. Agreements received without a proposed work plan will not be reviewed. Arrangments for receiving the material are made between the researcher and the provider.

  3. Before sending the MTA to the Invention Licensing Agreements Group, the researcher must complete an MTA Questionnaire (PDF/ Word ) and have it signed by the Principal Investigator (PI). The MTA Questionnaire along with the MTA may be sent to the Invention Licensing Agreements Group by fax or campus mail.

Steps for Invention Licensing Agreements Group

  1. After receiving the MTA and MTA Questionnaire, the Agreements Group reviews the Agreement to ensure that the terms are consistent with Federal Law, NIH policies and University of Washington policies.

  2. If the MTA is acceptable, the Invention Licensing Agremeents group will sign and send the agreement to the PI. Invention Licensing retains a copy of the Agreement for its own purposes and sends an additional copy to the PI. If the Agreement is not acceptable, the Invention Licensing Agreements Group will negotiate MTA terms with the provider.

  3. When an Agreement has been reached, the agreement will be subjected to a signature process. Once an agreement has been signed, the Agreements Group will provide the PI with the signed Agreement. Please note that the turnaround time can vary from days to weeks depending upon the Agreement.
