Outgoing MTAs (For Profit)

UW routinely shares materials with researchers at for-profit institutions. However, some of the materials may be part of a UW licensing portfolio. Therefore, MTAs to for-profit institutions need to be reviewed by the Agreements Group in collaboration with the UW investigator to determine if an MTA is an appropriate document for the transfer of those materials.

Steps for UW Researchers

1. Send an e-mail request to the Agreements Group with a brief description of the materials and the name of the researcher requesting the materials as well as the for-profit institution with which they are affiliated.
   
   Please provide us with a brief description of what the receiving party will be doing with the materials and any other information which might be relevant to the transfer, including where the materials originated from and the funding source that led to the development, whether there has been a recent publication, and whether the materials will be formally disclosed to UW TechTransfer.
   
2. We will then draft the agreement and send it via e-mail attachment to the receiving party. We will copy the UW Principal Investigator (PI) on all e-mail correspondence.

Steps for Outside Parties Requesting Materials

1. Please contact the UW researcher directly to request the materials. We will not process any requests without authorization from the UW researcher.
   
2. Please note that some biological materials may be part of a UW licensing portfolio and may not be available under a standard MTA template.
