Project Examples

The Digital Ventures unit within UW TechTransfer manages UW intellectual property resources and technology transfer relationships for software (including software patents), databases, and digital and printed content for all UW departments.

We can help you:

Use royalties for self-sustaining project revenue
The Digital Ventures unit can direct royalty revenue received from licensing of copyrighted works or trademarks to support your project. This can help you further develop your information assets (software, or content, digital works) through a project budget that has been setup specifically to handle the distribution of copyrighted licensing revenue.

Bridge your project funding gap
We can help UW innovators bridge the gap between creating a prototype of a new technology and deploying the project outside the university. More often than not, conventional funding mechanisms do not provide support for getting from a prototype to a working product.

Reach different users through multiple channels
We can help your project aggregate rights to the intellectual property in your work so that the software codes and other content and digital materials can be attributed and distributed to appropriate academic and/or commercial channels. Managing your team’s intellectual property prospectively is a powerful means to enable long term distribution as well as providing a commons for others to contribute.

Work with other institutions
We can also help you with inter-university or cross-disciplinary licenses for your project. Some of these licenses may be handled by the Office of Sponsored Programs during the actual collaboration, but we can assist you in thinking about how the project work should be distributed externally at any time.

Examples of innovations

Here are some examples of the types of digital and printed materials that we work with:
