List of Students in Textual Studies Core Courses

Students Officially Admitted to Program

The information on this page does not take into account the past few academic years--we are in the process of updating the lists of students who have taken courses in 2003-2008 and who have been recently admitted to the program.

Student Enrollment

Student enrollment in the Textual Studies seminars has been strong and consistently interdisciplinary, with as many as 7 departments represented in a single seminar. The smallest number of students was 9, the largest (in three seminars) 17. Auditors to these seminars have been a regular feature as well, especially among faculty. For example, Ahmad Karimi-Hakkak, Professor and former chair of Near Eastern Languages and Civilization, not only attended every class in Professor's Eggert's seminar, but did all the assignments like a regular student. Professors Míceál Vaughan and David Fowler attended all sessions of Remley's 1998 seminar. Foreign visitors and exchange students have also tended to gravitate toward these classes: e.g., Delphine Gras from University of Montpellier (in Lockwood's seminar); Arnaud Pretre from France (in Dubois's and Eggert's seminars); Kenny Ng and Zhuoyi Wang from China and Marina Capbun, Fulbright Scholar from Romania (in Modiano's seminars).

The greatest number of students in the seminars have come from English and Comparative literature, in large measure because the instructors are members of the same departments. Although we are happy with the mix of students in these seminars, which is certainly not to be found in regular English seminars, we would like to like to see the ratio of students from departments other than English and Comparative literature increase.
