The Student Activities Office (SAO) is one of several units with the HUB department.
SAO staff encourage UW students to participate in student activities and student government as an excellent way to experience personal growth, meet new friends, share common interests with other students, faculty and staff. The goal of SAO is to help students develop skills in leadership, event planning and management, decision-making, communication, goal setting, fiscal management, marketing and promotion, and even more importantly, to make life at UW fun and memorable.
Registered Student Organizations
Over 800 student organizations register with SAO every year. Once registered, student organizations are eligible for several benefits and resources across campus. The SAO is committed to assisting RSOs in putting on quality events, being an effective organization and developing leadership skills.
The RSO Directory is now hosted in RSO Community and lists those student organizations that are registered for the current academic year. Registered status lasts through October 31 of the following year.
SAO advises the Associated Students of the University of Washington (ASUW), the undergraduate student government. ASUW provides an array of employment, elected, and volunteer opportunities to UW students as well as representing the UW student body in many levels of campus administration.
SAO also works with the Graduate and Professional Student Senate (GPSS), the graduate and professional student government. GPSS is comprised of two senators from each degree-granting department, four officers, and several staff members. GPSS represents students to the University, funds graduate programming, and hosts regular social events.
