From eastbound SR 520, take the first exit at Hunt's Point after you cross Lake Washington. Go straight through the stop sign at the end of the ramp, pass the gas station, and continue about a mile up Points Drive NE. Turn left at the stop sign at 92nd Avenue NE, and cross over the freeway. Park in the small parking area for service vehicles on the left side of the street just north of the overcrossing bridge.

Note: Lane #1 Westbound is a 3+ person HOV lane. Whenever you have time, you may write down license plates of HOV Lane Violators. The vehicles make and color, and approximate time of sighting should also be recorded.

There is no HOV lane for eastbound traffic.
When observing the Eastbound traffic, count the busses in the bus pullout lane as lane 1 traffic.

From the office, enter I-5 Southbound at NE 45th St. Merge to the left right away to exit Eastbound on SR 520. Stay on SR 520 until the exit for 148th Avenue NE, heading north. This is a split ramp so take the second (B) part of the exit. The exit ramp will curve around to the right. Turn right at the stoplight, and go just across the overpass to park on the right shoulder, clear of the road on the dirt area. Be careful that you do not drive into the small drain ditch there.

To count Westbound traffic: Set up your workstation on the grassy area overlooking the freeway. Count the traffic going west.

To count Eastbound traffic: Go to the pedestrian lane near the Azteca Restaurant and cross at the light. Set up your workstation on the sidewalk on the west side of the overpass and count the traffic going east. It is possible to count Eastbound traffic from the Westbound site, however it is best to count from the overpass facing the eastbound traffic.

From the office enter I-5 Southbound from NE 45th St.. Drive south on I-5 through Seattle to the I-405 exit Northbound at the interchange by Southcenter. Exit at the SR 167 Southbound toward Kent. From SR 167 exit at South 212th Street. Turn to the west (right) and go to the stoplight at 84th Avenue S. and the East Valley Rd. Turn right onto East Valley Road then turn right at the traffic light at S. 208th Street. Drive up the hill and across teh overpass and park on the graveled shoulder. Put on your safety vest then remove your chair and data collection equipment from the car and walk back to the bridge and set up your workstations.

To count the occupants in the Southbound cars set up your chair on the sidewalk on the North side of the bridge. Try to leave some room for pedestrians.

To count the occupants in the Northbound cars, set up your chair on the sidewalk on the South side of the bridge. Try to leave some room for pedestrians.

From the office: Enter I-5 Southbound on-ramp from NE 45th St.. Drive south on I-5 through Seattle to Exit 149. At Exit 149 take the off-ramp and get in the far left lane. Turn left onto SR 518 (to Kent). Take SR 518 to SR167. Turn right/south onto SR 167. Take the first exit, which is S. 277th St. and turn right/West. At the next traffic light turn left/South onto SR 181/West Valley Highway. Follow this road to the first traffic light and turn left/East onto 37th St. NW/292nd St. There is no shoulder to park on at this site. Drive east across the overpass, make left turn into the first driveway. Manipulate the car to where you can carefully drive onto the sidewalk. Do not drive off the sidewalk onto the right side as it is soft sand.
