To apply for the traffic observer position, fill out this application and contact Mary (206-543-3337) for an interview. Please bring the following with you to the interview:

All forms are located in the filing cabinet in the HOV room. You may also download and print the following forms:

Keys

You will be provided a key to the HOV room. Return it when your employment ends.

Pay

UW hourly employees are paid on the 10th and the 25th of each month. You have the option of having your check deposited directly into your account. Fill out the Direct Deposit Authorization Form and submit to Jane at the front desk.

Performance Review

The initial 20 shifts (about one month) are considered your probationary period. When you have completed the probationary period, a performance review will be scheduled with your supervisor. The following criteria must be met to continue employment:

Achieve an accuracy rating of at least 90%.

Maintain an absentee rate of 10% or less for students or 5% or less for non-students.

Consistently collect 5+ data sessions for each shift.

Consistently follow designated procedures for data collection and office protocol.

Consistently participate in vehicle maintenance.

Wage Increases

Observers who have maintained the above performance criteria and return the following season may be eligible for a wage increase.

PDAs

We use the Palm m130 PDA to collect data. They are stored on a rack in HOV Room, and must be returned there to be recharged after every shift. Directions on how to operate them are here.

Time sheets

Time sheets are located on the desktop of the HOV computer. Fill them out daily.

The arrival time entered on your time sheet is the time that you actually arrive at the office, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. Do not enter less than quarter hour increments.

If you choose to meet your team members at the observation site, your start time is the time that you arrive at the site and your end time is the time that you leave the site. The UW does not allow us to pay travel time from your home.

Completed and signed time sheets are due on the 15th and last day of the month. If you turn it in late, your paycheck will be delayed until the next pay period.
