What is the Tutorial Process?
In order to help students become better editors and proofreaders of their own papers, i.e., being able to recognize spelling, grammar, and mechanical errors, TRIO OWL tutors will indicate where those types of errors exist and direct students to resources to help them eliminate such errors.
TRIO OWL tutors will proceed through the student's writing in one or more of the following ways:
- Read each submission holistically, based on the Rubric for TTQ or PhotoEssay
- Give positive reinforcement - praise what is good
- Make comments beside areas that need clarification or correction
- Direct students to online handouts or interactive practice exercises that will help improve areas of difficulty within the writing
- Conclude with a summary restating the strengths and the weaknesses within the writing.
Once the student submits writing material for the tutorial, a response from a tutor will occur within 24 hours.
