When I came to UW, the transition to college was overwhelming. A First-year Interest Group or FIG guides you through that process with a small group of students and a peer FIG leader. FIGs helped me make friends and begin to build my UW community.
Top 3 reasons why I joined a FIG:
Community: you will have a small group of students you will know from your FIG class. In a virtual environment, a FIG is a great opportunity to meet other new Huskies.
Guidance: your FIG leader is a great resource for you. They were a new Husky once and know what it is like to transition to campus.
First-year planning: throughout fall quarter, you will work with your FIG Leader and academic adviser to start planning your academic path at UW. You will begin the major exploration process and begin to map out an academic plan that includes major prerequisites and co-curricular activities.
With all the uncertainty around us right now, a FIG could be more beneficial than ever. The FIG program is working adjust their curriculum to be offered remotely. A FIG is a great way to help you stay on track for your first university quarter!
