Meet Dave Wolczyk. Dave
is an Upward Bound Technology Coordinator, Math/Science Technology instructor, and a
mentor for TRIO training. He basically taught himself about computers and used to work
with Macs. When he was hired by Upward Bound, he started to work more on PC's.
Meet Byron MacKenzie. Byron is a Physics
tutor at the University of Washington Instructional Center and a part-time Upward Bound
instructor. Byron took only one computer class and everything else about computers, he
learned on his own.
One-on-One with Dave and Byron
- Did you enjoy teaching the students the complications about computers and how to
assemble them?
Dave: "Yes, I really enjoyed working with the students. They
have done really well."
Byron: "Yes, at the same time I enjoyed teaching the students and working
on the computers."
- Which lesson(s) or topic(s) do you think were the most hardest and complicated for the
students to understand and apply to about computers?
Dave: "The lab on AD
Conversions, lectures on memory and transistors seemed very hard for them to
understand."
Byron: "Hexadecimals. We could of done better explaining
hexadecimals."
- How many computers have you built before?
Dave: one.
Byron: 15 a year, including rebuilding my own.
- Do you think the computer building and designing class had a successful outcome?
Dave: "Yes, of course!"
Byron: "Yes, absolutely!"
- Do you think you might have another computer building and designing class in the near
future?
Dave: "Yes, but it will cost a lot!"
Byron: "Yes, I also hope other Upward Bound programs all over the United
States will have a computer build and design class."
