Biography

I choose this picture out of Encarta because it shows life on a plantation. My great grandmother Mahala Smith was born on a plantation, in 1908. It was at the end of the plantation days. She use to tell me stories of her life on the plantation. Most of the time she talked about how she, her four brothers would pick cotton in the fields, and how she (being a girl ) always got in trouble for climbing trees.

I also remember the way she had a poem for every body she met, but I liked the one she gave to my younger brother best. It went like this:

Good morning Mr. Jay bird,

I came to borrow your wings,

to fly across the ocean,

to hear Miss Lucy sing.

Miss Lucy has a baby,

and every time it cries,

she picks him up and spanks him,

and gives him chicken pie.

Personal Interests / Hobbies

I choose Jim Carrey as my favorite actor because, he's the funniest comedian I've ever seen. To me Jim Carrey is a person that can make anybody laugh, no matter how many times you have seen the movie.

Of the many movies I've seen Carrey in I personally liked Ace Ventura, Pet Detective most of all. In this movie Carrey used a lot of his funniest moves like, talking out of his butt!

AKA: James Carrey

Occupation: Actor, comedian

Birth Name: James Eugene Carrey

Born: January 17, 1962, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Carrey started as a stand-up comedian at age 15 in comedy clubs in his native Canada. It wasn't until he was cast as an ensemble member for Fox's "In Living Color" that Carrey had an opportunity to truly flaunt his comic talents.

Carrey made the leap to feature leading man with the out-of-the-blue smash hit ACE VENTURA, PET DETECTIVE (1994). A non-stop showcase for his distinctive brand of physical and verbal humor, ACE featured some of Carrey's more outrageous bits including an extended sequence where he talked out of his butt. His next offering, THE MASK (1994), Here he played an everyday schlub who finds a magical mask that turns him into an over-sexed cartoon superhero. The film also featured an extended song and dance sequence with Carrey belting out the Desi Arnaz rumba number "Cuban Pete."

He followed up these back-to-back successes with another box-office hit, DUMB AND DUMBER (1994), in which Carrey played the latter of the two title characters.

I also loved the movie Boyz N The Hood because, to me it showed how people, friends stick together, especially in a time of need. It showed how hard life can be when you're living in the ghetto, and it proves that you can over come any obstacle, if you put your mind to it. Below is more information about the movie.

Review

Sober, thoughtful look at life in the black section of South Central Los Angeles. A divorced father strives to raise his son with values—and steer him away from the ignorance and aimlessness that has led to an epidemic of senseless violence in the neighborhood. Impressive debut for 23-year-old writer-director Singleton; longish, and not always on-the-money, but overall quite potent and effective. Singleton has a bit part as a mailman.
