This summer I am participating in the Upward Bound Program here at the University of Washington. This is my first summer in this program and the weeks are going by quickly.
My classes are lecture, language arts, math, special technology, technology, and discussion. In my technology class, we are working on creating our own web page and in my special technology class we are working on databases. In Language Arts, we are reading the story “ Big Boy Leaves Home”.
My favorite web page so far is http://pages.nyu.edu./%7Egonzago/jokel.htm. This page is full of jokes. The jokes are pretty funny. I like searching the different interesting pages.
I chose these illustrations because this Philippine flag and map represents who I am and where I come from. The map shows all of the Philippine Islands. My family and I come from Luzon.
I was born in Cabanatuan City, Philippines on April 18, 1980. My dad and I came to Seattle on October of 1987. I am now a junior at Cleveland High. I have a stepmother, stepbrother, and a stepsister living in the Philippines. I now live with my dad, my aunt and my uncle on Beacon Hill.
My background is important to me because my ancestors in the Philippines shaped who I am today. My family is important to me because without them I wouldn't have made it this far in life. They have helped me make important decisions about my life. My family has taught me to always respect others no matter what the circumstances are and to always take responsibility for my actions. They have also taught me the value of getting an education to insure a good future for myself. I would like to pass these lessons on to my children in the future.
I am looking forward to graduating from Cleveland High and then moving on to the University of Washington. I would like to become a successful pediatrician one day. I am interested in this profession because I like working with children and helping others.
