STEREOTYPES By Wynetha

Stereotyping me, because I’m black, white or because I don’t look like you.

Stereotyping me, because you have just assumed that

I was connected to one group, or another.

Paying attention only to the way I talk, the things you’ve seen me do,

or how I dress.

Looking at the outer appearance and not stopping to look at what is on the inside.

Saying what you feel by looking at me and making a guess of how my next move will be.

Expecting little but not seeing the expectation that I have for a lot.

Motivating myself to be better than the best and proving to you that no matter what you have seen,

my actions will show you that I’m not like the rest.

Stereotyping me, not knowing who I really was, but the things you saw influenced

how you opinionated yourself towards me.

Stereotyping me, but soon after finding out how different I came to be.

Prejudging my skills and abilities through an over-attention to a fleshy convention.

That you only noticed the things of the moment and not the things

that could have been found.

Stereotyping me, is denying yourself from the beauty of truth

that is with held in me.

While stereotyping me, you are stereotyping yourself, because in your mind you feel that

because you are a good person you don’t stereotype, but that’s a stereotype in itself.

In reality, you’re dreaming while thinking of this poem and just had a flashback of the time you stereotyped me,

and now you feel bad because you have just been called out.

So don’t stereotype the people of this world unless

you know the true meaning of who they are.
