Thoughts On Upward Bound
What is it like being around high school students vs. college students?
Very different! For the most part, college students are very serious and focused. (You have to be in order to succeed). High school students are also focused but on different levels. .
How did you get involved in Upward Bound and why?
I had no idea what Upward Bound was all about but I was encouraged to apply. I started with UB the summer before my Junior year at Nathan Hale. It was hard going to school practically year around, but it has paid off! After my first year at the UW, the UB Staff asked me to work for them, so here I am.
What is your fondest memory in Upward Bound so far?
The end of my first summer!
How do you motivate yourself at work?
Coffee! Just kidding! For the most part, I have a lot of responsibility and I don't think about motivation. My "to do" box is almost always full and I just work away, getting all of my work done is motivation enough.
Besides working for UB, what are some of your hobbies?
Reading, writing, needle point, doing puzzles, volleyball, softball, soccer, cooking, etc.
If you were an Upward Bound student, how helpful would it have been for your college career?
I was an Upward Bound student! UB helped me to believe in myself and to realize the dream of college.
