Thoughts On Upward Bound

What is it like being around high school students vs. college students?

I love teaching for UB because most of the students still have energy and are not yet beaten down by the education system. People are curious. College students tend to be too grade conscious.

How did you get involved in Upward Bound and why?

I first taught for UB in 1994 as a social science instructor. Why? Keepin' in touch with real live people.

What is your fondest memory in Upward Bound so far?

Playing hoops at the final picnic in 1994.

How do you motivate yourself at work?

I realize how little I know and how much fun it is to really learn stuff that is applicable to real life.

Besides working for UB, what are some of your hobbies?

Chinese martial arts, cycling, tennis, b-ball, my daughter and my wife Leslie.

If you were an Upward Bound student, how helpful would it have been for your college career?

More than you could ever imagine. I didn't really get any of these skills when I was in high school or college. Of  course, now I know how important they are...
