Thoughts Concerning Upward Bound
What is it like being around high school students vs. college students?
High school students are a lot more laid back than college students. (Maybe it's more carefree when you are younger). High school students are more open in casual conversations - details are usually juicier!
How did you get involved in Upward Bound and why?
I was an Upward Bound student at Cleveland High School, so I figured that it would be fun to revisit what it's like to be in the program. I like being around the students a lot. Even if I am now 22 years old, there's a part of me that's kind of teenager-like.
What is your fondest memory in Upward Bound so far?
I am not sure about the fondness...watching Hadassah and Jeremi win 1st Place in the Speech Competition was exciting. Meeting with Sam and Samson for Calculus class - they are great students to work with. They pay a lot of attention.
How do you motivate yourself at work?
Coffee and all the cute boys in the program ( Just kidding!)
Besides working for UB, what are some of your hobbies?
I like to read! I like to go to clubs and I like traveling.
If you were an Upward Bound student, how helpful would it have been for your college career?
Very helpful. Being around a college campus brought realistic college experience into my mind. I also was more mature being surrounded by older people. Classes that were geared towards writing resumes and cover letters helped a lot! The financial aid seminars were great!
